| This was a day of heat and demoralizing hills. I will take the hills over the mountains any day, however. The temperature got up to 101 degrees. I met Lawrence Woods who lives in the United Kingdom just south of Birmingham. He is having some pretty serious knee problems. Starting from the east coast put him in the mountains within days of starting his ride and the ride to the crest of the Smokey Mountains on the Blue Ridge Parkway is a very hard start. He is self employeed so he was able to just take off and do this trip which he hopes to complete in about two and a half months. We visited for a long time along the side of the road. |
| This bridge is just beautiful. It is out in the middle of nowhere and I am guessing it is easily more than 100' high and the spans between the pillars is at least 200 or 300 feet. It is an engineering and architechtural marvel. |
